M222 is a relatively young subclade of R1b. According to an academic paper by Klyosov and Conroy (2012?), roughly 50% of its distribution gleaned from DNA research projects is in the Isles, with about 25% in Ireland (presumably the island, not any particular 20th century political entity.) After the northern part of Ireland (the island), Scotland has the next heaviest concentration.

Connollys possessing the Niall of the Nine Hostages badge in their accounts belong to this subclade of R1b. If willing to commit to further Y testing, M222 Connollys should join the M222 haplogroup project.

Some members are SNP matches under A10525 but are not STR matches, so are not likely to be family matches within a reasonable genealogical timeframe. Those types of project groupings are labeled UNMATCHED.

Surnames did not come into being until late first / early second millennium. The split after A260 between BY11724 and (some precursor to?) BY20816 probably came before the usage of surnames, so these Conleys got their surname from different sources.

Overall, very little ancestral origin and family history data have been provided by these members.

R-M222 members are in private project Clusters 1900 - 1918.

Conley project members can improve the data on this website by EXPERT LEVEL participation.
