Back to R1b

Conleys and Connollys falling into this haplogroup characteristically have a null value at marker DYS425 (position #48 in the haplotype table header, below). They are advised to join the Clan Colla Y DNA project.

That project aims to test certain theories about the Three Collas, who were descended from Cormac mac Airt, a high king of Ireland.

One of the Clan Colla project administrators is Peter Biggins, who maintains a separate website with considerably more extensive Y DNA and surname analysis of descendants of Z3000.

R-Z3000 members fall in private project Clusters 2500 - 2530, with the bulk of them starting from cluster 2505, the beginning of the R-S953 Connollys. This is the largest group of Connollys in the FTDNA project.

Conley project members can improve the data on this website by EXPERT LEVEL PARTICIPATION. With full participation from several members under R-BY2869, DNA details below can be expanded substantially and linked with pedigrees.

SNP Calendar / Timeline

Most of our Connollys under R-Z3000 really start at R-S953, and split apart at R-BY2869, about the beginning of the second millennium. The clusters below are internal to the project. The bulk of them are downstream from the BY2869.

Cluster 2505 members should upgrade.

For cluster 2510 we need more data to be able to confidently identify lineages.

Clusters 2515, 2520, 2525, and 2530 look more like lineages.

Geography Map Back to Top

The map on the left is an approximation of the spread of R-S953 and R-BY2869, based on maps from Rob Spencer at Scaled Innovation. It shows a presence particularly in Ulster, in southern Scotland, and possibly in northern England.

Project members report paternal line origins from Armagh, Newry (Ulster) and Scotland. For Newry it is not clear if that is Newry in Down, Armagh, or Tyrone.

Those counties are in the Province of Ulster, most of which is in present-day Northern Ireland.

Modal Haplotype for R-BY2869 Connollys plus one project member

The modal haplotype was derived from the Y-DNA results of project members in these clusters. As we would expect for Clan Colla, the marker value at DYS425 (# 48) is 0.

One member is participating at expert level, but we need more expert level project members so we can show more detailed comparisons here.
